Erectile dysfunction is the term for the condition where a man cannot consistently achieve and maintain an erection that allows for satisfactory sexual function.
Erectile Dysfunction, also known as ED, is very common and becomes increasingly more common with increasing age. Statistics tell us that men will experience erectile dysfunction at the following rates: 20% in their 20’s, 30% in their 30’s, 40% in their 40’s… and so on. So, it’s not a matter of inevitability – but a matter of reasonable probability that you are more likely to experience ED as you get older.
Nerve signals from the brain trigger a reaction that causes blood to rush into the penis. Blood must be able to move into the penis and stay there in order to maintain an erection. As arteries are the vehicles that move blood into the penis, if they do not dilate appropriately because they are inflamed or clogged, essential blood flow will be effected. Good arterial health increases erectile health.
You May Have Experienced These
Onset may be gradual or sudden. Symptoms may include:
Trouble getting an erection
Trouble keeping an erection
Reduced sex drive
You need not be embarrassed to discuss symptoms with your doctor. In fact, it is important that you do, as ED can also be a warning sign of an underlying condition or more serious health problem such as heart disease or diabetes.
So what causes Erectile Dysfunction?
Turns out, a lot of things. But the four main causes can be categorized accordingly: Vascular, Neurological, Psychological and Hormonal.
There are many treatment options. The most common are pharmaceutical oral medications known as phosphodiesterase type-5 (PDE5) inhibitors. Then there are the penile injections, vacuum devices and surgical implants. For men with arterial blood flow problems to the penis, Low-Intensity Extracorporeal Shock Wave Therapy (Li-ESWT) is a good treatment option.
Pain-Free, Drug-Free, Non-Invasive
We use the world’s most clinically studied device which was engineered specifically for Erectile Dysfunction treatment. The Medispec ED1000 uses Low-Intensity Extracorporeal Shock Wave technology which treats the underlying vascular cause of ED by improving the quantity and quality of blood vessels, thus improving blood flow to the penis.
